Modern Challah

What is Challah?
- It's a Jewish egg bread that we eat on Friday nights and special holidays

Every Friday early afternoon, my step f-i-l makes challah in the bread machine, just dump everything in the bread machine. It's delish depending on what ingredient we have. It varies every week.

Recipe
3/4 cups lukewarm water
1 egg beaten
3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons sugar
1 Teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2,5 cups assorted flour- whole wheat, kamut, hemp, spelt
1.5 teaspoons yeast
4 tablespoons raisins (added when the machine beeps at us)

set for dough in bread machine. After the 2 hours, split into 6 equal parts, weave as chalah, allow to rise, spread egg white on top followed by sesame seeds

Bake 35 mins at 350 degrees.
Shabbat Shalom and Enjoy.

    1. To remember that God has provided the Israelite with food when they were in the desert (Exodus)
Usually, during Sabbath, we are suppose to have 2 loafs of bread with 6 strands to remember the 12 tribes of the Chosen People.
